B Corp: Business as a force for good.
Wait - B What?
I've heard that question quite a few times when I told people that we at Lovechock are currently working on the B Corp certification.
To make it simple: B Corp certifies and is also the network of companies that have made it their mission to use their business in a way to have a positive impact on society and the environment. I always describe it like this:
“It is about the best companies for the world and not only about the best companies in the world.”
Pretty simple actually, isn't it?
But what does the name B Corp stand for? "B," stands for Benefit and "Corp," for Corporation. In other words, a company which is committed to adding value to society and the environment at the same time.
Different than most certifications B Corp is not focusing on one specific part or department of the company. It is rather about looking at the company as a whole and evaluating its positive impact on society and the environment through a point system. Since their founding in 2006, there are now more than 3,600 certified B Corporations in more than 65 countries, including Patagonia, The Guardian and Einhorn. This international movement connects companies as they move toward a responsible business future.
But what does the certification process look like? First of all, we answered an extensive pool of about 200 questions. These questions are clustered into different topics such as our environmental and social commitment, the structure of our company, our relationship with our suppliers and customers as well as our use of resources. When all questions have been answered, we moved on to the submission of the assessment and the subsequent review phase. Since many other companies have decided to work together for a better economy for the future and join the B Corp community, the certification process is currently taking a little longer than usual. This means on the one hand that we probably won't have the certification in our hands until next summer, but on the other hand we are extremely happy that so many "good" companies are choosing this way.
But why B Corp for Lovechock?
Simple answer: it's embedded in our company philosophy.
Pure Goodness, that nurtures body, mind and planet.
We will keep you posted and finger crossed that we get the certification.
